To participate, old and new MAAC students have to register on Onlinevarsity* and find precious gems and coins hidden across the portal. Each gem & each coin has certain number of points attached to it, and the student with the maximum score at the end of the contest will be the First Prize winner.

MAAC-artoon, 2013 - Cartoon Competition

Think you have some outstanding cartooning skills? Here's your chance to win some awesome prizes - such as the Galaxy Tab 2, Bamboo tablet and many, many more!

MAAC, in association with the Indian Institute of Cartoonists, invites entries for MAAC-artoon - a cartoon competition for all!

Rules & regulations to participate:

The competition will be held under two categories:

  1. Open category: Theme - 'Corruption'
  2. Animation and Fine Arts students: Theme - 'Match Fixing'

Each participant can send only one (1) entry in black & white or colour, mentioning the category. Only hard copies of the final art work in A3 size will be accepted. Copied or reproduced work would be disqualified.

Participants have to be between 15 and 25 years of age and have to submit age proof in the form of birth certificate or class 10th mark sheet, along with their final artworks. Behind every entry the following details have to be clearly and legibly mentioned:

  1. Name
  2. Age
  3. Date of birth
  4. Education
  5. Address
  6. Phone number(s)
  7. Valid email id

Final date for entries to reach us is August 10, 2013. Entries can be dropped off at or mailed to the nearest MAAC Institute in Bangalore. For the list of centres nearest to you, Click Here. MAAC will not be responsible for any damage to artworks coming through mail.

Shortlisted participants will compete at a live grand finale on August 24, 2013 for the first and second prizes in each category.

The competition is open to all. Shortlisted students for the Finale will have to bear their own lodging & travelling expenses in Bengaluru.

The verdict of the judges would be final and irrevocable.

Selected cartoons would be exhibited at the Indian Cartoon Gallery (Indian Institute of Cartoonists) from September 1-20, 2013.

Art in the Park- Sketching and painting contest

Maya academy of advanced creativity, Kormangala organised sketching and painting competition "Art in the park" on 21st of July 2012 at Cubbon park for all Maac students from Bengaluru.

MAAC Manifest 2012 was a great success with more than 500 students attending across Bangalore. The event highlighted animation as a great career option today.

Arnab Choudhary, director of the movie, Arjun - The Warrior Prince, shared valuable insights from the making of this awesome animation film.

Prosenjit Ganguly, with his wit & humour, shared practical tips to excel in the animation industry

Siju Thomas spoke on the evolution of animation in the last two decades & the life cycle of a CG artist

Jai Natarajan discussed various career opportunities in animation & stressed on the skills required to be a successful animator.

Hoonar - Students' Art Gallery

Maya Academy of Advanced Creativity, Kamla Nagar successfully organized its 1st annual showcase of student's art gallery "Hoonar - A Journey from Pencil 2 Pixel" at its Kamla Nagar Centre, New Delhi on 5th -6th May,2012.

Hoonar showcased students' work in Sketching, Digital Painting, Matte Painting, Digital Illustration, Commercial Designs, 3D Modeling, and Texturing & Lighting specializations. Videos of 3D Animation work of students were played. For the first time this gallery also showcased Stereoscopy work to be viewed using 3D Glasses.

The best student of all received a Wacom Tablet and Gold Medal & other toppers were awarded Gold and Silver in their chosen categories

MAAC opens another center in Bangalore

MAAC inaugurated its latest high-end 3D animation & visual effects training center in Yelahanka, Bangalore on August 28, 2014. The centre was inaugurated by K M Chaitanya, an award-winning film director and BBC documentary film maker. Dr. M. Prakash, director of studies at Seshadripuram Educational Trust was the guest of honour.

Like all MAAC centers, this centre too will offer the entire range of advanced cinematic courses such as, AD3DEDGE, DGWA, ADVFX, etc. The center is also equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure to train students in the latest 3D animation, multimedia, graphics & visual effects technology.

Speaking on the occasion, Ram Warrier, senior vice president & business head, MAAC said, "The requirement for skilled professionals has increased by leaps and bounds and we are sure that our Yelahanka center will be able to contribute to the 3D animation, multimedia & VFX industry by training individuals with thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of the industry."

Chaitanya resonated Warrier's thoughts and said, "The animation sector is gaining a lot of traction in India, thanks to the large talent pool that is available. The industry needs trained professionals who can contribute to a project from day one. I wish MAAC Yelahanka center the best and hope they are successful in their endeavour of providing the industry with polished talent."

MAAC launches one more hub of creativity

Jamnagar, Gujarat has a brand new MAAC centre! The centre was launched on 8th August, featuring future artists and animators who showcased their creativity through ‘The Jhakaas Photography Contest'. A mini iPad and Samsung Tab were the awesome prizes that added to the excitement of the day.

The grand launch had over 300 attendees and 150 contest entries.

MAAC students win Rolling Frames Short Summit Award for their documentary film

Fourteen students of MAAC, in association with the Bangalore Traffic Police, made a documentary movie - The Resilient Bangalore Traffic Cop. The documentary released on YouTube on July 2, 2014 & won its first award at the Rolling Frames Short Summit Award at Bangalore.

The movie portrays the lesser known side of the Bangalore Traffic Police. Their plight, their struggle, and their resilience form the heart of the movie. The movie was made under the guidance of Anto Ramesh Paul, Zonal Technical Head MAAC (South) and under the mentorship of Shajan Samuel.

Three cheers to the MAAC students who worked tirelessly for endless hours to shoot this documentary.

MAAC was awarded the Bronze trophy in the ‘Animation & Graphics’ category at the prestigious Edutainment Show, India's largest educational exhibition & summit.

Imaginations delivered: MAAC organizes painting competition for differently-able children.

In an attempt to add colours to the lives of differently-able children, MAAC organized a painting competition in Prabartak, a home for differently-able children in Salt Lake, Kolkata, on April 11.

More than 20 children from the home participated in the event. The purpose was to unravel their hidden skills and bring cheer among these precious lives. The children enjoyed their day out while expressing themselves with colours.

MAAC Students Receive Industry Placements; Set New Standards

It is not new for MAAC students to be placed with the some of the best production houses in the country. However, recently three of our students received job opportunities that set new standards.

Maria Panneer Rajan, a student of MAAC Annanagar (Chennai), was selected to join Prime Focus, Mumbai as a mid-level compositor with a salary of INR 35,000 per month. He is amongst the very few professionals who get an opportunity to skip the junior level and directly join the ranks of mid-level compositors.

Bangalore too witnessed similar celebrations when two MAAC students received placement during the Bangalore Jumbo Job Fair, organized by MAAC.

Bhargav Ranjolkar from MAAC Kormanagala and Sharada from MAAC Indirnagar would join Xentrix Studios as Production Assistants with salary figure of INR 20,000 each.

Paint Happiness - A Social Initiative by MAAC Students

MAAC and its uber creative students have combined their creativity with a social cause called 'Paint Happiness'. The purpose of this beautiful campaign is to spread a smile and cheer among the precious children at various orphanages across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.

It is a three day activity (April 22 - 24, 2013) of beautifying the walls of the orphanages with a splash of our students' creativity.

The orphanages covered under this initiative are St. Catharine's Home (Andheri), Janani Ashish (Dombivali), Vatsalya Trust (Kanjurmarg), Girija (Kharghar), CRY (Bandra), Thomas Shelter (Kandivali West), and Bal Anand (Chembur).

MAAC's Tenth National Students Meet Receives Overwhelming Student Response

The 10th annual National Students Meet (NSM) received an overwhelming response, which was organised at Resorte Marinha Douroda, Goa from March 18-22, 2013.

NSM is the biggest gathering across the country, organised towards creating a platform for MAAC students to interact with industry experts and their fellow counter-parts regarding trends in the Animation & VFX industry. More than 200 students participated in this five-day fun-cum-learning event.

Learning from the Experts

Students received a unique flavour of workshops, alongside knowledge sessions conducted by industry stalwarts such as Nishith Takia (Krayon Pictures), Piyush Panjuani (Equus), Sapan Narula (Director of Photography), Kulvider Bakshish (Theatre Performer, Director, Actor, Trainer), Guru Vaidya (Adobe), Chetan Sharma (Animagic Studio), Gayatri Rao (Animagic Studio), Amit Rane and Kane Lew (DR Caesar Photography Studio), and Shashank Tere (Production Designer).

Gala Night Prize Distribution

The Gala Night marked the final evening of NSM 2013 at Goa. Students were awarded for their works completed during the NSM sessions and workshops. WACOM gave out latest, high-end tablets as a prize towards the Digital Painting Competition. ADOBE gave out cash prizes to Quiz Contest winners.

After five days of fun, learning and creativity, students let their hair down and shook a leg to the tunes of the DJ; a fitting end to the event.

MAAC Students Visit Rhythm & Hues

MAAC organized a visit to Rhythm and Hues Studio (R&H) in Hyderabad for its students on November 9, 2012. More than 45 students from MAAC Dilshukh Nagar, Vijayawada and Ameerpet (Hyderabad) attended the Studio.

The objective of the visit was to give students a hands-on exposure to the vagaries of industry functionality. R&H is one of the major global production houses that has worked on movies like The Mummy Returns, Hulk-2, and Night at the Museum.

Students were thrilled to receive this opportunity as they were taken through different facets and stages involved in the animation process.

Bollympics: Viral Video Script Contest

2012 may be coming to an end; but not the number of interesting contests for MAAC students. MAAC brings the biggest contest of the year for all its students - Bollympics: Viral Video Script Contest.

Theme of the Contest

What would happen if Bollywood rose to protest against the ban on Indian Olympics?

Put on your thinking caps and come up with funny, hilarious, humorous scripts based on this theme, which could be produced into 30-45 second animated viral video.

MAAC would produce the winning script and the student would get credit across various promotions.

Process of Submission

  1. Students/Centres should submit the scripts to maacmarketing@aptech.ac.in
  2. In case a student is sending the script directly, a copy should be marked to the respective centre.
  3. Entries should be saved by region/ centre name/ student name/ student ID. The Title Page of the script should address all the mentioned points.
  4. Entries without the above mentioned details will be disqualified from the contest.

Eligibility & Restrictions:

  1. Competition is open to all MAAC students
  2. Duration of the Script: 30-45 seconds
  3. Last Date of Submission: 5th January, 2013
  4. It should be an original concept
  5. Language: Hindi or English
  6. Word Limit: 200 words or less
  7. Your entries should reach us in .doc (word) or pdf formats only.
  8. You can adapt scenes/dialogues from popular movies, talk shows, jokes etc. but do not copy word for word. Instead, improvise and give it a twist to make it your own

Storyline:

  1. The viral video script presented should not make negative comments about any celebrity/MAAC.
  2. Contributors name will be included in the video credits.
  3. Avoid
         - Explicit humour
         - Extreme vulgarity expletive
         - Extreme sexual content
         - Overtly political content
         - Hurtful religious content
  4. All decisions made by MAAC shall be final and binding.

The MAAC education centre in Jayanagar organized a flash mob to celebrate World Animation Day on 27th October, 2012 at MG road, Bangalore. Students indulged in a rhythmic dance sequence, dressed up in the costumes of their favourite animation characters. The event surprised the crowd of Bangalore city.

MAAC Manifest 2012 a great success

MAAC Manifest 2012, an educational seminar conducted on 15th September, 2012, informed the students about different facets of animation. Over 900 participants attended the seminar in Mumbai.

MAAC Manifest was graced with industry experts such as Arnab Chaudhary, the creator of Arjun - The Warrior Prince; Arpan Gaglani, Creative Director at Krayon Pictures and Kirtish Tharthare, Lead Lighting Artist, Rhythm & Hues Studio.

At the event Arnab Chaudhuri and Arpan Gaglani took the students through the making of the 3D movie Arjun and glimpses of the movie, Delhi Safari, providing insights on the use of modern software to bring life into the characters, growth in the application of VFX in animated movies and so on. Kirtish Tharthare shared his experience of working on X-Men First Class and Yogi Bear.

The speakers also held an interactive session with the students, on the scope of the Indian animation industry and how India is gaining status as a leading 3D animation outsourcing hub.

Learning Conclave at Coffee Gudda

MAAC Bangalore organized a 2 day fun-cum-learning event on 23rd & 24th August, 2012 at Coffee Gudda. 45 students participated in this event, where they got valuable insights in photography by ace photographer Bikash Das in a hands-on training session. This was followed by a photography competition, in which Ratheen from Malleshwaram won a free scholarship to the Delhi School of Photography.

Apart from this, the students also indulged in exciting activities like trekking & white river rafting. Kudos to the MAAC team for making this Learning Conclave such a great success!

Workshop on Stress Management

MAAC, along with Bangalore Traffic Police, successfully conducted a workshop on Stress Management on 16th July,2012 at Bangalore Traffic Park. The workshop had 55 sub inspectors who participated in the training session.

The workshop was conducted by professional trainers & all the participants were awarded a certificate of participation.

M A Salem, IPS, Additional Police Commissioner of Traffic & Security, Bangalore praised the initiative & the efforts of MAAC team in organizing this activity.

The Learning Conclave 2012

The Learning Conclave 2012 - a day long workshop held in Hyderabad on 20th July, 2012 was a great success. More than 100 students across Andhra Pradesh actively participated in this event held in Leonia resort near Hyderabad.

The event had an interesting lineup of activities designed to engage aspiring Animation & VFX experts.

Animation experts from the MAAC team provided students with valuable insights on how to succeed as an animation professional, along with an interesting and interactive photography session and animation acting workshop.

MAAC & UNIC (United Nations Information Centre) together present the theme for 24FPS 2012- The Future We Want

On 29th of MAY 2012, MAAC & UNIC (United Nations Information Centre) together held an exhibition of "PAINT YOUR PLANET - The Future We Want" at UNIC HQ in New Delhi

The exhibition was launched by UNIC Director Kiran Mehra-Kerpelman, Aptech CEO Ninad Karpe and UN Resident Coordinator Patrice Coeur-Bizot.

UN has designed special postcards containing some of the best images of this exhibition. Titled 'Paint Your Future', the postcards will be distributed during various events and activities promoting the themes of Rio+20 and The Future We Want campaign

Ms. Mehra-Kerpelman also presented the first set of postcards to Mr. Coeur-Bizot and Mr. Karpe.

The event concluded with the launch of a 30-second animation film created by MAAC and UNIC highlighting the seven themes of Rio+20, to promote The Future We Want. This, as well as a short film made by 24fps 2011 gold animation award winners (Pink Bangles -MAAC South Ex, New Delhi) will shortly go live on national television.

MAAC announces"48 Hrs" The Race Against Time- an animation marathon for students of its west zone centres on 30th, 31st May & 2nd, 3rd June, 2012

48 Hrs is a challenge where various teams create a 3D film (involving modeling, texturing, rigging, lighting, animation and rendering). All this within 48 hours!
