Superheroes in Indian cinema: Four memorable superhero movies in Bollywood

Marvel Studios has created an aura all around the world with the latest Superhero movie, Avengers: Infinity War. People all over the world are talking about the movie and it broke all records worldwide. Superhero films have been extraordinary since the beginning. The fun of watching a man with enhanced abilities going around fighting and protecting the ordinary citizens has always been fascinating to the audience. From the web shooting Spider-Man to the brooding caped crusader Batman, we all have been fans of these since childhood! Surprisingly, Bollywood has also explored the superhero genre several times and gradually managed to break the idea of a stereotypical Bollywood masala movie. While Bollywood filmmakers are trying their hands on superhero movies, let’s take a look back at the most memorable superheroes movies in Bollywood!

Ra. One

It was one movie that crossed all boundaries in terms of its promotions. Shah Rukh Khan, the superhero, was in the lead role, while Arjun Rampal played the role of the super-villain. The film also starred Kareena Kapoor, Akon, and Rajnikanth. Around 1,200 artists worked for two and a half years on the movie’s high-end graphics and visual effects. 2D and 3D versions of Anubhav Sinha’s ‘Ra. One’ became a benchmark for superhero movies in Bollywood. It even achieved several awards for its technological brilliance.

Robot

The film that almost single-handedly led to the Rajnikanth Jokes goes viral. Other movies too contributed to the ‘Rajni’ phenomenon, but, the technological effects of ‘Robot’, one of the most spoken-about Bollywood superhero movies, brought sci-fi Bollywood movies almost at par with Hollywood. Robot featured around 60 VFX. The robot ‘Chitti’, in the film was basically mannequin made by a team of 100 technicians in Los Angeles. It also starred Aishwarya Rai in the lead role.

Krrish

It was one of those Bollywood superhero movies that found its own superhero. Hrithik Roshan‘s avatar was not a copy of a Superman or Spiderman, but an absolute original superhero. Krrish impressed the world with its special effects and Hrithik’s performance was well received by critics.

A Flying Jatt (2016)

Remo D’ Souza known for his dance-themed for the first time shifted to a new genre of Bollywood superhero movies. He brought to big screen his vision of a superhero who is not perfect but is constantly growing. A superhero who does not instantly know the solution to every problem but is always willing to help. He is not the bravest but has a heart of gold. This movie brought to the big screen a refreshingly realistic and humorous take on the usually dark and serious superhero genre. Tiger Shroff was a perfect choice and he essayed the role of a newbie superhero perfectly. The film garnered around Rs. 38.61 crores in the box office.
